Georgina Kakoudaki
Georgina Kakoudaki is a director and theatrologist. Her 25-year professional career in theatre and education reflects the breadth of her experience and expertise. She holds a Master's degree in theatre from the Department of Theatre Studies of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, and has authored, participated in and edited publications on directing, cinema and film aesthetics and experiential and theatre education from well-known publishing houses and artistic organizations such as the National Theatre and the Institute of Educational Policy. He has directed dramatic texts of Ancient Greek and world drama on the contemporary stage, including: Sophocles' Antigone, Euripides' Helen, Aristophanes' Vultures and Nebulas, Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream, Goethe's Faust, as well as contemporary plays based on ancient Greek tragedies such as After Aphrodite (based on Aeschylus' Persians) and Jack Thorne's Rispect / Throwing Your Brother to the Curb (based on Sophocles' Antigone). He has also collaborated as a dramaturg in over 30 theatre and dance productions and has organised numerous Young Creators Festivals in collaboration with various organisations and theatres. In addition, he has directed site-specific performances inspired by political, scientific and literary figures (Pericles, Pythagoras, Lafcadio Hearn) as well as from the historical-narrative footprint of cities (Athens, Heraklion, Pelion region, etc.) as a result of her artistic research and effort to connect the past with the present through the creative and educational power of theatre. She has taught courses on theatre in education in departments of Theatre Studies (University of Patras, University of Peloponnese in Nafplio, University of Athens) and Pedagogy (University of Athens, University of Thessaly in Volos) and has presented lectures and experiential workshops at universities and theatre organizations abroad (Mexico, Iran, China, Iceland, Serbia, Belarus, Lithuania, Belgium, etc.). He has taught theatre in primary schools, high schools and public educational institutions in Greece. From 1997 to 2004 she was in charge of the Library and Archive of the National Theatre. She teaches Theatre History and Drama at the drama schools of the Athens Conservatory, "Praxis Seven" and "Theatre 100". From 2016 to 2019 she was the advisor of the educational programs and Head of the Lyceum of Epidaurus - International Summer School of Ancient Drama of the Athens and Epidaurus Festival. During the last years, she has presented her work in ancient drama and the education of young artists and students in international forums and events organized in Greece and abroad.
