Mario Banushi

Mario Banushi was born in 1998 and lived in Albania until the age of six, before moving permanently to Greece. He studied acting at the Drama School of the Athens Conservatory, from which he graduated in 2020.  The same year, he made his first short film Pranvera, with which he participated in the 2021 Tirana International Film Festival. His first work as a stage director was the performance Ragada, which was created and presented in a house in Athens, during the pandemic lockdowns. His next work, Goodbye, Lindita, premiered in 2023 at the experimental stage of the National Theatre of Greece, and quickly accumulated an enthusiastic audience and rave reviews, resulting in consistent sold out shows and international invitations from esteemed festivals and theatres, such as the International Theatre in Amsterdam, the Adelaide Festival in Australia and Bitef in Belgrade in which Mario received the Bitef Special Award “Jovan Ćirilov” and the Politika Award for Best Director. His third work, Taverna Miresia – Mario Bella Anastasia, was presented in July 2023 at the Athens Epidaurus Festival for three sold-out performances and has been touring internationally since the beginning of 2024. Mario Banushi’s trilogy is usually referenced by the title Romance Familiare, which means family romance in Albanian.

Ο Mario Banushi γεννήθηκε το 1998 και έζησε στην Αλβανία μέχρι την ηλικία των έξι ετών, πριν μετακομίσει μόνιμα στην Ελλάδα. Σπούδασε υποκριτική στη Δραματική Σχολή του Ωδείου Αθηνών, από την οποία αποφοίτησε το 2020.  Την ίδια χρονιά γύρισε την πρώτη του ταινία μικρού μήκους Pranvera, με την οποία συμμετείχε στο Διεθνές Φεστιβάλ Κινηματογράφου Τιράνων το 2021. Η πρώτη του δουλειά ως σκηνοθέτης ήταν η παράσταση Ragada, η οποία δημιουργήθηκε και παρουσιάστηκε σε ένα σπίτι στην Αθήνα, κατά τη διάρκεια του πανδημικού λουκέτου. Το επόμενο έργο του, Goodbye, Lindita, έκανε πρεμιέρα το 2023 στην Πειραματική Σκηνή του Εθνικού Θεάτρου και γρήγορα συγκέντρωσε ενθουσιώδες κοινό και διθυραμβικές κριτικές, με αποτέλεσμα να παρουσιάζει συνεχώς sold out παραστάσεις και να λαμβάνει διεθνείς προσκλήσεις από αξιόλογα φεστιβάλ και θέατρα, όπως το Διεθνές Θέατρο του Άμστερνταμ, το Φεστιβάλ της Αδελαΐδας στην Αυστραλία και το Bitef στο Βελιγράδι, στο οποίο ο Mario έλαβε το ειδικό βραβείο του Bitef «Jovan Ćirilov» και το βραβείο Politika για τον καλύτερο σκηνοθέτη. Το τρίτο του έργο, Taverna Miresia - Mario Bella Anastasia, παρουσιάστηκε τον Ιούλιο του 2023 στο Φεστιβάλ Αθηνών Επιδαύρου για τρεις sold out παραστάσεις και περιοδεύει διεθνώς από τις αρχές του 2024. Η τριλογία του Mario Banushi αναφέρεται συνήθως με τον τίτλο Romance Familiare, που σημαίνει οικογενειακό ειδύλλιο στα αλβανικά.
