Volmir Cordeiro
Born in Brazil in 1987, Volmir Cordeiro first studied theatre and worked with the Brazilian choreographers Alejandro Ahmed, Cristina Moura and Lia Rodrigues. In 2012 he completed an experimental dance training at the Centre National de Danse Contemporaine in Angers and in the following years created his first work cycle consisting of the three solo pieces Ciel, Inês and Rue. As a performer, he was involved in projects by Xavier Le Roy, Emmanuelle Huynh, Latifa Lâabissi, Robyn Orlyn among others. With Époque, Outrar and Trottoir, further group works and solos followed, which he continuously presents at the most important dance festivals in Europe and Brazil. Volmir Cordeiro is the author of Ex-Corpo, a book on figures of marginality in contemporary dance, and he regularly teaches at choreographic training centres worldwide. He regularly teaches in choreographic training schools such as Master Exerce (ICI-CCN Montpellier, France), Master Drama (Kask, Ghent, Belgium), PARTS Brussels, at the Ménagerie de Verre, at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse as well as in the framework of the Camping festival, at the Centre National de la Danse, in Pantin. In 2021 he received the French SACD award. His artistic work is characterised by a strong desire to politicise, his performances are known for being frontal and direct, negotiating complex political issues with a critical approach on stage.
